This white oak slat bench wraps around the inside of a silo, which serves as the entrance to a barn-turned-house in western MA.

Each slat was individually sliced, steamed, bent to a tighter radius to account for springback, then laminated to the final curve. I chose to use this cross of steam-bending and bent lamination in order to preserve the character of the woodgrain while bending along the wider dimension of the wood.

I first visited the silo in late 2024 to measure the exact dimensions, then CNCed jigs to steam and laminate each slat to the exact dimensions of the silo.
